Why Zoya is a safe choice

Mums to-be know firsthand that as soon as they get the news they're expecting, it's time to make healthy choices - not only for themselves but for the baby as well! The great news is, you can do so without sacrificing pampering yourself with a mani and pedi! Zoya Nail Polish is Big10Free, which means the formula is free of harmful chemicals like Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, TPHP, parabens, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide, Camphor and lead.

Some of you may be wondering why avoiding these chemicals is beneficial, especially during pregnancy. We got a little bit of help from the Zoya Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Irene Reyzis to explain.

"Toluene is often found in other nail polish formulas as a solvent, but according to the Air Toxics Website of the US EPA, scientific studies have demonstrated toluene's ability to cause developmental effects in the babies of women exposed to high levels during pregnancy."

Dibutyl Phthalate

"According to both the EPA and the National Library of Medicine, animal research suggests that ingestion of DBP in specific can negatively impact fetus development, with toxic effects in the fetus occurring even in the absence of maternal toxicity."

It is used in some nail polish formulas for a unique purpose in that it helps create a more flexible film when the polish is dry. Camphor crosses the placenta and in some cases has been implicated in negative pregnancy outcomes such as fetus death. It is known that fetuses lack the enzymes necessary to properly metabolize and excrete Camphor so that it is less harmful to the body. No amount of exposure is worth the potential risk. "Although more research is needed to determine a causal relationship between Formaldehyde and birth defects, those frequently exposed to significant levels of Formaldehyde found that it has the ability to possibly cause certain types of cancers like leukemia, as well as rare cancers of the nasal cavities and upper airways The most common health problem in people exposed to Formaldehyde is significant irritation of he eyes, nose, and/or throat, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)."

Note: Formaldehyde is commonly used in the context of what are called resins, which may be understood as large complexes of formaldehyde bound with other chemicals.

So go ahead mums and enjoy that mani/pedi just a little more knowing that Zoya Nail Polish is the safe choice for you and the little one! ?
